Title

Welcome to the Promising Practices in Aboriginal Education Website, sponsored by the Martin Aboriginal Education Initiative (MAEI).  MAEI’s guiding vision is to empower Aboriginal students with the knowledge and confidence they need to complete secondary school and to continue their education.

MAEI is currently sponsoring the Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Project, the Accounting Mentoring Project, and now the Promising Practices in Aboriginal Education Website, a web-based Aboriginal education clearinghouse to foster the exchange of promising classroom practices.

This website will allow educators, researchers and others to learn from the experiences of others about strategies described elsewhere that have been found to be successful in enhancing learning opportunities and improving educational success for Aboriginal students.

We will regularly update and add new material to the site. Materials posted will be in English and /or French, as they are received from their source. By registering you will receive these updates directly as they are posted.

Please contact us at:info@maei-ieam.ca if you have any relevant research, elementary or secondary classroom practice that you would like to share with others, and/or if you are interested in finding out more information about our initiatives.

MAEI is partnering with Ashoka Canada to launch Inspiring Approaches to First Nations, Métis and Inuit Learning. As you know, there is an urgent need for greater opportunities for First Nations, Métis and Inuit people to succeed in education and lifelong learning. Inspiring Approaches is a unique collaboration of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal groups, including philanthropic and citizen sector organizations. Inspiring Approaches provides an online platform to enable participants to discuss and share innovative ideas, to comment and vote on entries, and to become eligible for awards ranging from $500 to $5,000.

MAEI is sponsoring five awards of $1,000 each for top entries pertaining to elementary and secondary classroom education in Canada.

Please share this information with your colleagues and encourage them to submit their ideas and/or projects.
